Lines, Segments, Rays, and Angles SPLAT: I HAVE THAT!

Here is a series of games for you to add to your files as you prepare for the new school year!

I created the Splat: I Have That series a few years ago when I was looking for an interesting game to play in my class with my students. I needed to create a game that was engaging and easy to follow. Also, I wanted to create something new that could be played the same way, even if the focus skill was different. Anytime I play a SPLAT game in my class it is guaranteed to get loud! The students love it and we can never play this game just once. I am really pleased with the concept; I've created this game using a variety of skills. Any SPLAT game is perfect for reinforcing important concepts in a large or small group! Check out this *forever Freebie in my store. Let me know if your students LOVE it!

Don't forget to leave honest, helpful feedback.

A Freebie and a Giveaway!

So I got into my classroom today. Unfortunately, I have been spending all of my time cleaning the room out and I haven't had a chance to get my stuff in yet....#stressed. But I have been working around the clock while at home to make sure when I can get my stuff in there, everything is "ret-to-go"! I just finished a classroom theme set that I absolutely adore. I was initially going to use the Super Kids Classroom Theme Set  but....well....things change, lol! I wanted something else and I think these colors "POP".

I also made a few resources to compliment this classroom theme. I will be using this one on the first day of school. I have glitter, string, paint, crayons, paper bags and stickers...I am ready.<<< for this, nothing else, lol!

One last thing I added to my store using this theme is a lunchtime invite that I use with my students in the beginning of the year. I wasn't going to talk about it on my blog until I finished my post on the responsive classroom but... that isn't getting done this week so I figured I would share it today. Go get it!

Finally, I have a big and easy to enter giveaway going on until Saturday. If you have bought anything from my store...BAM...10 points...EASY! If you buy multiple items, feel free to enter everyday and get 10 points! Just know that I will be checking for your username to crosscheck purchases made (you get 10 points for every purchase). The other two ways to earn points is super easy...follow my TPT store, follow my FB page.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

I hope to have some classroom photos for you in the next few days....just know, I am sooooo overwhelmed (in a good way). It is a lot. Teachers should get a complimentary certification in interior design because it takes some serious skills to get the room right! I have seen some wonderful room designs, some which have inspired my layout. Check back soon. But before you go, tell me where you are in the back to school frenzy! Are you in school or losing sleep getting prepared to get there? Don't forget to enter the giveaway above. Smooches  :)

Using Glyphs in the Classroom and a *Freebie

Download HERE

A glyph is a chart that shares specific information. Short for hieroglyphic, a glyph is a type of picture writing that conveys information. Glyphs are made by collecting data and developing a legend. Components of the final picture express specific information or ideas. The legend highlights the meaning of each feature found on the glyph. The idea is that the final picture tells a simple story about the individual who created it.

The information complied from the data can be used in a variety of ways. It can be graphed, it can serve as conversation or story starters. It can be displayed to help create a responsive environment. Children can discuss this information in pairs or small groups.  Glyphs are great for team building activities, interpreting data, icebreakers and/or time fillers. Students love using the legend to analyze their peers!! Here is an easy to use *freebie. This is perfect for a "snowy day" activity! Save it to your toolbox and share with your colleagues : )

Cafe Read-A-Latte: A Reading Contract and Reading Log *FREEBIE

Download for *FREE
In the past I used to have a read-a-thon in my class to raise money for students to add books to their personal library. I called this read-a-thon: Cafe Read-A-Latte. The students enjoyed it and I always raised enough money for students to get at least 3 or more books each. Some students even raised over $100 each (which they were allowed to use to purchase books for their personal library). I love the name Cafe-Read-A-Latte so much that I am always looking for a way to use it for anything reading related. I found this clip art on Scrappindoodles.com and knew I would eventually use it (yes...my name is Kathie and I hoard clipart). Well this past weekend I was working on my reader's companion for the book Enemy Pie and knew I wanted to create a reading contract and reading log to give away as a *freebie. As I scrolled through my clipart, looking for an image to use on the cover, of course I instantly decided on my latte bears! So...this is a really cute cover sheet and yes....I realize it is quite girlie. But, lets face it...most covers are for the teachers anyway, right? The content is for the students. I know, I know, I know....never judge a resource by its cover. But...we do!!! So with that said I will add my disclaimer. This is a REALLY cute cover...but the forms are basic...and not gender specific!! You can check them out below if you don't believe me : )

Either way, you will find this resource helpful when organizing reading workshop, independent reading, and or developing reading centers/workshops in your class. It will help students keep track of what they are reading in a meaningful way. And, you can use it as a formative assessment. Download it for free in my TPT store (don't forget to follow to get updates on newly added *freebies) and let me know how you like it. If you are looking for any additional  center/workshop ideas to enhance yor independent reading time for your students, check out my new Reader's Companion for the Book: Enemy Pie.
